Mayla's Big Entrance
I would have to say that labor was different than I thought that it would be. We went to the hospital on March 3 at 7 pm. They gave me a pill to soften the cervix and said this will slowly take effect and we will probably have to do it 3 more times through the night. Well, needless to say that 15 minutes after that was done I was having pretty good contractions. They just kept getting stronger and closer together. I then received an epidural, which was awesome! Mayla didn't feel the same way. My contractions continued to be very strong and close together so she was not getting a rest between them. This made her heart rate drop fast. Next thing you know there are 3 nurses in the room and they were telling us that we may be going in for a c-section and made Todd put on scubs right away. This was so scary. We became very nervous. They then gave me a shot to help slow down the contractions so she could have a break. The Doctor came in and she was so calm and made us feel better. Mayla's heart rate then came back and they just had to keep giving me a shot every hour. Todd and I couldn't stop looking at the monitor all night. Finally, I was ready. Pushed for almost 2 hours and out she came on March 4 at 5:56 am. Although, she swallowed a lot of meconium and they rushed her to the table with about 5 people to check her. They had to put a tube down her throat to get the meconium out. She recovered quickly and was ok. She wanted to make us really appreciate her being healthy, which we do. What a crazy night that was. We couldn't be more blessed.
