At the end of the school year Mayla's preschool has a "show-off" day to show what they have learned. Mayla has come a long way with her swimming. She really had a hard time at first with the water and was very nervous about getting her eyes wet. What we came to find out is they had the kids jump off the side of the pool without anyone to catch them and she just wasn't ready for that. Her teacher thought it would be best to take her and a few other kids and work with them more one on one. This did the trick. She began to gain trust in them and it became one of her favorite things to do at school.
They would play red light green light and kick their legs. This is Mayla and best friend at school, Malia.
She did perfect back floats.
I just couldn't believe how easy it was for her to go under the water, considering where we came from.
This was the best part. She would sit and wait her turn and then would jump off the edge of the pool with no one there to catch her. We were totally surprised. Once she came up the teacher would help her to the edge of the pool and would sit until her turn again. Awesome job Mayla.
